Schwantner and Conrado Moya make their début in Madrid

Teatro MonumentalLast February 4th, 2015 the Teatro Monumental in Madrid hosted a unique event: the Percussion Concerto of the American composer Joseph Schwantner was premiered in Spain in its version for wind ensemble by the Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band with the Dutch Jan Cober as guest conductor and Conrado Moya, who made his début as soloist in the capital.

Schwantner’s Concerto entails a technical and interpretive challenge not only for the soloist, but also for orchestra and conductor due to its peculiar rhythmic dialogues. However, the great emotional depth that was achieved on stage with Conrado Moya’s performance, Jan Cober’s skills and a cozy Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band led the enthusiastic applause of the Madrid crowd.
